Tape Art is a work of art created from adhesive tapes, such as duct tape (which differs from gaffer tape in the way that the adhesive is stronger) or wrapping tape. In addition, plastic foils are used as you know it from sign and car decoration.
It is a relatively new art form that took its current form around 2008-9 in Berlin. It origins in urban arts such as graffiti, stencils and the like.
Unlike graffiti, tape art is most often done with permission as the setup is often a relatively complicated and time consuming process.
The works of art are made on different surfaces; walls, floors and windows. On glass and plastic, transparent materials can be used and indoors tape attached between wall and floor can be shaped into three-dimensional sculptures.
TAPE OVER is an international group of artists established in Berlin in 2011. The roots are in Berlin's subculture, where the members made tape art as decoration at the city's vibrant techno clubs which served as a creative playground.
The group's tape art style includes elements of street art as well as urban art and is characterized by both versatility and fine details. In addition, the art reflects what inspires the members the most - organic shapes, abstract figures, simple design and strong visual expressions.
The artists in TAPE OVER work internationally and have created tape art works all over the world in that way creating the very expression of the young art by constantly moving boundaries and form.
